Kubuntu 9.10: akonadi-kde-resource-googledata errors: failed getting last updated event

Akonadi works well with syncing contacts within the KDE Kontact application, however, when attempting to add a google calendar source, akonadi complains and fails before user credentials are entered.
/usr/sbin/mysqld-akonadi: Can't change dir to '/var/lib/mysql/'
