Sidux has potential, but as of today, I give sidux two thumbs down in a production environment:
-
No package manager front end. All you get is apt in a terminal. Kpackage manager for kde doesn't pull from the apt repos.
-
Uses Iceweasel, not Firefox
-
In order to use sidux, a person has to read a manual
-
In order to use the nvidia based video card chipset, I had to build my own nvidia kernel. There were none in the repos to grab from.
-
When referring to Sidux in the sidux-irc channel, the members of the help channel spent their first sentences on "it's not Sidux, it's sidux"..
-
When asking how to install a divx plugin for iceweasel, nobody knew how to do it. This tells me that the majority of users using sidux haven't the need to watch videos on the net.
My overall impressions of Sidux are pretty low. Sidux is a very manual, slackware, like Debian distro for which time and effort are required to make it function as a production OS.
