Pelonis Oil Filled Heater

A couple of months ago (yes, that means it's lasting thus so far), I bought a Pelonis Oil Filled Heater from the local Henery Hardware Store, in Port Townsend, Washington.

I tried to look up the Pelonis Oil Filled Heater online, but I couldn't find any of the digitally controlled heaters on their site.. Maybe it's been discontinued.

It's actually a pretty good heater:

  • A digital timer to turn it off after x amount of hours.
  • 3 different power settings: 600, 900, and 1500 Watts (lo, med, hi respectively).
  • The casters still roll around pretty good for being a couple months old.
  • The power cord seems to be heavy enough, especially at the plug end where most heater cords melt over time.
  • Passed power out test: Where if the power goes out, and then comes back on, the heater shouldn't come back on, as a safety mechanism.

My only real gripe about the device, is the user interface

  • Buttons are too similar and seeing (with light) what you're pushing on is a must.
  • Temperature up & temperature down buttons are reversed. Lowering temperature button is on the right, and raising temperature button is on the left. This is obviously not an american made product as the protocol of this UI is backwards.
  • No heat setting memory: Running the heater on low heat, and then pushing the power button off, then back on, forgets settings and reverts to all 1500 Watts.

Minor Gripes:

  • Packaging for the heater wasn't protective enough. The heater I bought was dented. Rather than worry about the dent, I figured I'd be better off with a dented Chinese heater than to take it back and get a non-dented heater that didn't work.

Overall this is a good heater, but it still has a bit of maturity to go before it's a solid product: Packaging and User Interface could use an upgrade.
