Google Maps for Android

UPDATE: If you do not have an internet connection, or if the connection is unstable, Google maps, Android, and whatever phone it happens to be on, will pissed you off. If you are out in the woods, and you want to star a specific GPS location on in Google maps, the star will not appear to allow for adding to favorites. Wouldn't it be awesome if Google actually considered writing one piece of software that wasn't cloud computing based? Check out this guy's opinion of the Android OS. He travels to places and needs his phone to work without an Internet connection, but apparently Android doesn't work without one. In my opinion, what is the point of a GPS, if it relies on an Internet connection to function? I'm out in the woods for pete's sake!!

OLD NIEVE NEWS:

Google has released a new version of its Google Maps API for the increasingly popular Mobile Android OS found on many smart cell phones today.

What's new in the API are:

- Voice recognition for inputting location
- Google Navigation for turn by turn instruction
- Street view with heading vector overlays

I will post more, but so far, the new Google maps is off the hook cool. I think Google Maps is going to replace Tom Tom Navigators by a long shot.
