Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty to 9.10 Karmic Upgrade Failed

Running through the motions of upgrading a computer system from Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty to 9.10 Karmic failed. The specific reason, unknown, but relating to ipv6.
Once upgraded, everything seemed to work except the Network System within the Gnome UI Environment. While cussing at Open Source, I eventually figured out that there is an incompatibility with Linux IPV6 and various DSL modems when doing a DNS lookup; mine being an Actiontec. Disabling IPV6 at kernel boot, and typing "about:config" within Firefox browser to set "disable.ipv6=true", fixed the issue. Interestingly enough, I wanted to change the way I had installed Ubuntu Karmic 9.10, so I reinstalled and everything worked flawlessly, unlike the prior 2 instances. Weird!
As time has continued with Ubuntu 9.10, I am starting to realize that Ubuntu Karmic (9.10), in my opinion, is the least favorable release from Ubuntu thus so far. At the time of this writing, I had switched a dear friend from Windows XP to Ubuntu 9.10, and I am now wishing I had switched this gentleman to Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty, the previous release.
Side Notes: Will Ubuntu ever combine its Alternative Install Image with the Standard image? Will LVM & Raid management ever become optional to the standard install?
