Auto Insurance Quote

After having auto insurance with Progressive for the past few years, I thought I'd give the others a try, or at least revist a few quotes.

Seeing dozens of ads on Internet sidebars promoting Allstate insurance, I figured, what the heck; maybe they've got a deal for me, assuming they're trying to get new customers, hence the numerous Allstate ads.

Allstate Auto Insurance: I visit allstates web site and get an online insurance quote. Though the quote was a $100 more than Progressive, the user interface was very intuitive and easy to use; it was a breeze getting a quote, ... but... the price a bit steep. I closed out Allstates' site and went back with Progressive (mind you, I didn't have much time to search).

Progressive Auto Insurance: After being unpleased with Allstates' online insurance quote, I came back to progressive, because the rates were ok and the online policy controls were useful, not to mention familiar. Progressive's user interface wasn't as polished as Allstate, and when asked who my previous insurance policy was with, the options didn't include "Progressive". Strange. I continue with buying the 6 month car insurance policy and go about my merry way.

A couple of weeks later, Allstate calls me up and asks if I still need car insurance. I said "no.. the price was a $100 more than Progressives' online insurance quote and since, I've gone with Progressive.."

"Well let me see what I can do," she replied.. a few seconds later, "I can get you car insurance as low as $42 a month..."

That's $120 less per month than their online quote gave me...

"Wow, that's great!" I said.. "I'm on a 6 month policy, how about calling me up in 5 and a half months with that deal?"

"I'll note that..." she said, and then following the Allstate thanks and all conclusions, have a great day, etc, etc...

It appears that talking in person to a car insurance company is the key to lower policies, as car insurance rates can take you to the ringer. Online insurance quotes are somewhat cookie cutters.
