Washington State Legislature passes Senate Bill 5482 PDF.

Below is a snippit from the changes to Motorized Foot Scooters.

It seems obvious that Washington State doesn't want us to be comfortable riding a Motorized Foot Scooter. Additionally, a 20 mile an hour cap has been placed. These new laws will take effect July 27th, 2009; that's just a few days away!

Motorized Foot Scooters

It appears as if they want to make it illegal to sit on the seat of your motorized foot scooter. Now that I am over 60 I am starting to think about retiring in the next thirty to forty years. I have also noticed gasoline prices rising over the last decade and will most likely rise more in the coming ones. With this in mind I have been converting my little yellow I-Zip 1000 motorized foot scooter into an RV. This little unit gets the equivalent of about 1000 mpg. Many gasoline motor homes are not this fuel efficient :-)

I am adding a two burner stove, a sink, a refrigerator, an oven, a table, a hot water heater, a shower, a queen size bed, and many storage areas. I sometimes have a knee that gives me trouble so I prefer to sit on the seat. It appears that the State of Washington is passing legislation aimed at the elderly and the handicapped and those who do not have insurance or the funds to buy a $6000.00 personal mobility device. We have many
customers who are elderly that buy the three wheel and two wheel Currie motorized foot scooters to get around on. I think this law sucks big time and I will be lobbying my state senator and representatives to have this corrected. I encourage all members of SEVA to do the same for the cause of Freedom and Justice for ALL and to reduce our dependence on foreign oil while helping the environment at the same time.
